Sony, Unitecnic And Nevion Strengthen Partnership To Create A Permanent IP Technology Lab For Broadcast Applications

Unitecnic, part of Grup Mediapro, and Nevion, a subsidiary of Sony Group, are strengthening their collaboration with a new initiative to create a permanent IP technology lab focused on broadcast applications. Building on the success of the previous proof-of-concept demonstration of an IP broadcast system built around the Sony Networked Live ecosystem, this new IP technology lab, which will be located at Grup Mediapro’s headquarters in Madrid, will allow for system integration testing, technical training of clients and exploration of innovative use cases for IP-based on-site, remote and cloud broadcast productions.

Networked Live from Sony and Nevion is an ecosystem of solutions, products and services that combines hybrid on-premise and cloud processing with network connectivity to transform the logistics and cost economics of high-quality live production. It does this by enabling resources – locations, people and processing – to be seamlessly and optimally connected, utilised and shared across productions, regardless of location.

The goal is to create a multi-vendor environment using core components of Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem, in particular the Nevion VideoIPath media orchestration platform. This key component of Sony’s Networked Live offering is widely used by broadcasters and telecommunications service providers around the world in applications as diverse as contribution, remote production, studios, mobile units and GCCG (ground-to-cloud-cloud-to-ground). Nevion VideoIPath is also an open system that allows integration into existing environments, with interfaces to any device and equipment, and support for existing control surfaces.

The latest versions of Nevion VideoIPath software will be deployed in this IP technology lab to demonstrate the functionality to manage broadcast operations with an emphasis on enabling workflows that take advantage of the flexibility offered by IP, even in hybrid SDI/IP environments, as well as resource orchestration and monitoring capabilities. In this multi-vendor IP lab environment, Nevion VideoIPath will provide northbound interfaces (including legacy protocols) to support customer-preferred systems and control surfaces, as well as multiple southbound controllers for network devices and production equipment.
