TANDBERG Television To Receive Emmy Award For HDTV Leadership

2009 International CES
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group (NASDAQ:ERIC), today announced that it will be awarded a Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in recognition of TANDBERG Television's pioneering development and deployment of MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) systems for high definition television (HDTV). The award will be formally presented to TANDBERG Television at a ceremony held during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Las Vegas in January 2009.

"We are immensely proud that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has recognized the central role TANDBERG Television has played in the growing success of HDTV. Being awarded an Emmy for our pioneering development of MPEG-4 AVC HD is a tribute to our vision and to the talent and dedication of our engineering team," says Eric Cooney, President of TANDBERG Television. "We made a bold, early investment in HD MPEG-4 AVC, giving us a significant market lead, and we have built on that early momentum. Today, the high quality compression performance of our MPEG-4 AVC HD solution continues to lead the market and is enabling a number of operators to introduce and expand outstanding HD viewing experiences."

TANDBERG Television's MPEG-4 AVC HDTV solution has enabled a paradigm shift from standard to high definition programming for large-scale, multi-channel service offerings. The company publicly launched the world's first encoder at IBC in September 2004 and subsequently introduced the first complete MPEG-4 AVC HD broadcasting system, bringing together encoders, transport layer multiplexers, statistical multiplexing, redundancy switching, control and monitoring, at NAB in April 2005.

The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honor achievements in two areas: Science Engineering & Technology for Broadcast Television, which includes broadcast, cable and satellite distribution; and Broadband and Personal Television encompassing interactive television, gaming technology, the Internet, cell phone, private networks, and personal media players. A blue ribbon panel of industry professionals reviews and recommends technologies and potential awardees.
