Thomcast Introduces Ultimate 1 kW Solid State Digital Transmitter
Wayne Hoffman, Thomcast Communications CTO and Vice President of Engineering, explains the significance of the Ultimate 1Kw introduction to the domestic broadcast market; "The 1 kW Ultimate has fantastic applications for rural broadcasters who are being required to "go digital". This LPTV transmitter may be low power, but it is feature rich!"
Thomcast Ultimate Transmitters feature a solid state and cable-free design, providing the advantage of ease of maintenance and high reliability, a complete control and monitoring system, and an innovative hot-pluggable module design. In addition, the Ultimate 1kW features:
- Broadband LDMOS Amplifiers
- Compact Design
- Integrated Air Cooling System
- Digital Intelligent Transmitter, with Digital Adaptive Precorrection (DAP)
- Redundancy via parallel operating amplifiers and power supplies
- Standby second exciter option
Digital Adaptive Precorrection
Digital Adaptive Precorrection (DAP) is an integrated function of the Thomcast 8-VSB Adapt Exciter/Modulator. It provides precise digital correction of 1) Nonlinear distortions created by the active amplifier devices, such as amplitude and phase distortions; and 2)linear distortions that are created by the high-power passive RF system, such as group delay and frequency response distortions.
