Thomson Broadcast Solutions today announced that it is supplying a Specter Virtual DataCine and a VooDoo Media Recorder to Molinare Ltd. in Madrid, as part of that company's project to build the first complete digital film intermediate suite in Spain. The new suite joins an existing Spirit DataCine room at Molinare. Both rooms will use the Pandora MegaDEF for control and color processing.

A Thomson (Paris Euronext: 18453) (NYSE: TMS) business, Thomson Broadcast Solutions delivers open, integrated digital products that work together along the entire digital video chain to support a variety of workflows, from content capture and acquisition through production, post production, and transmission. It offers an award-winning, robust product portfolio that touches more high-quality content than any other; product and systems expertise that has yielded hundreds of patents and a number of industry standards; and worldwide software engineering expertise and customer support teams second to none.

"We are seeing an increasing demand for film finishing in the digital environment," said Chema Remacha, managing director of Molinare Spain. "Our new Specter room is oriented toward film finishing in 2K resolution from 35mm. It is HD compatible, and as our advertising clients get acquainted with it, we hope to use it for commercials."

"The move to film post-production in the digital environment is accelerating," said Marc Valentin, vice president of the Thomson Broadcast Solutions business. "Molinare's decision to choose the Specter Virtual DataCine as the foundation of its digital film suite reinforces our position as the leader in this exciting, creative, and demanding business."

The Thomson Specter Virtual DataCine and the MegaDEF combination provides exactly the same creative facilities for HD and 2K image processing as the Thomson Spirit DataCine, but without the film transport. The original film is scanned at full resolution on the Spirit system and stored on the Specter system's integrated 4-four terabyte server.

Molinare has also chosen the Thomson VooDoo Media Recorder, which is unique in providing uncompressed and uncompromising real-time HD recording and 2K data archiving in a single machine.

"Our existing Spirit has proved very successful and we have ten years experience in working with Pandora," concluded Remacha. "We are confident that our new digital film intermediate facility will prove very successful with our clients from Spain and across Europe."

About The Products
The Specter Virtual DataCine system is a server-based telecine system that offers a powerful 2K conformance-editing tool with optical transitions and real-time color correction. And its electronic film lab replaces negative cutting, lab opticals, and color-timing with 2K RGB image processing in real time.

The VooDoo Media Recorder is the only uncompressed HDTV recorder in the marketplace. With the ability to record a variety of DTV standards, the dual-mode recorder features both 4:2:2 uncompressed HDTV video recording and high-speed data recording as well as 12 channels of digital AES audio. Its ability to record 2K of data at 100 Mb/s makes it the fastest data backup system available on the market.
