Thomson completes Singingfish.com acquisition

Thomson multimedia has finalized its purchase of Seattle-based Singingfish.com, a developer of streaming media search technology.

Thomson, the world's fourth largest consumer electronics manufacturer says Singingfish.com will play a key role in its new business to business segment called Digital Media Solutions (DMS), which will provide new services and products spanning the digital convergence spectrum from broadcast to web video.

Singingfish says its platform has allowed it to index over five million unique streams and downloadable MP3s. The company expects that number to grow to eight million by the end of the year, based on projections for the growth of online streaming media.

The announcement comes just prior to Singingfish's formal launch at the Streaming Media West show in San Jose in two weeks. At the conference, Singingfish will announce its first customers and unveil new search services.
