VideoPropulsion Announces HEVC (H.265) Transcoder

VideoPropulsion has added the capability for transcoding to and from H.265 format to its family of digital video transcoder appliances.

Slinger, WI (PRWEB) - VideoPropulsion® is announcing immediate availability of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) options for its famous line of HailStorm™ digital video transcoders. HEVC, also known as H.265 as well as MPEG-H Part 2, offers approximately twice the data compression at the same level of video quality, or substantially improved video quality at the same bit rate as encodings done with H.264. (MPEG4).

VideoPropulsion's iconic transcoders, which have been employed for over a decade in such applications as converting MPEG4 satellite streams to play on MPEG2 only TVs, and translating MPEG2 CATV or over the air content to H.264 for IP distribution, has added HEVC to the mix. Incoming HEVC content can now optionally be decrypted, transcoded to MPEG2 or MPEG4, downres-ed from HD to SD, HLS chunked, encrypted, and played out over IP and/or coax networks. MPEG2 and MPEG4 streams can also be condensed to H.265.

A variety of encryption options are available including Pro:Idiom®, Verimatrix®, and Samsung Lynk™. (Note: Customers must be licensed users of any given encryption protocol.) Content can be distributed over DVB-C (QAM), DVB-T (COFDM), DVB-ASI, or wired or wireless IP networks.

"In a bandwidth hungry world, HEVC offers our customers the ability to reduce the stream bit rate and/ or increase the video quality with no additional spectrum requirement.", said Carl Pick, CEO of VideoPropulsion. "As usual, owners of legacy equipment will rely on the transcoding of H.265 content to traditional formats in order to extend the life of its service."

HEVC transcoders are available directly from VideoPropulsion.
