Wavexpress signs up Benedek station group for data broadcasting
A pilot project starts this fall, with Benedek station WMTV in Madison, WI offering the use of its digital spectrum to transmit data. If successful, Benedek will initiate a staged rollout of the Wavexpress service across their stations group. An NBC affiliate, WMTV reaches over 320,000 television households in Madison.
Wavexpress delivers digital content in the form of movies, music, sports, news, software, and computer games to Wavexpress-enabled PCs. In addition to traditional ad-supported content, Benedek will be able to offer consumers pay-per-use, rent and outright purchase options for a variety of programming and content.
Wavexpress – a joint venture of Wave Systems Corp. and Princeton, NJ-based Sarnoff Corp., has agreements with five broadcast groups, representing a potential 112 stations, covering over 39 percent of the US.
