WordWave unveils indexing for streaming video

WJCI announces general availability of wireless Internet transceivers for Cisco broadband fixed wireless solution
BOSTON (BUSINESS WIRE) -- WordWave, Inc., the global leader in digitized information transcription and searchable multimedia for the Internet, today introduced its new video indexing service, an end-to-end solution that streams, encodes and transcribes broadcast video clips for the Internet, making them more searchable and accessible. Broadcast captioning clients such as ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC now have the ability to stream their news or video clips to the Internet, creating a central repository where viewers can search for and retrieve useful information.

In October 2000, WordWave launched its Communications division, dedicated to providing a complete outsourced solution for captioning streaming media and making it easily searchable on the Web. Using Convera Screening Room, digital asset management software by Convera, WordWave will now be able to match digital video clips with closed captions, making them searchable for the first time by the spoken word, rather than predetermined metatags. WordWave's new Video Indexing Center will be headquartered at the company's Pittsburgh offices.

"Digital multimedia becomes immensely more valuable to both the viewer and the company that is streaming the video if it is searchable," said Larry Schwartz, president of WordWave's Communications division. "With this service, broadcast viewers will be able to visit the Internet and search for a specific word, product or segment that they saw on television, and be brought directly to that spot in the streamed clip. WordWave's video indexing service provides an unparalleled level of granular search that gives new life to video on the Internet, making it more accessible and useful to the viewer."

WordWave's VITAC division is currently the industry leader in broadcast captioning. With more than twenty years of captioning experience, WordWave's captioners can provide an unequaled 99% or better accuracy rate. This skill and accuracy, transferred to the Web, will enable viewers to conduct highly effective searches on streamed video clips for the first time.
