Zenith developed the ATSC modulation system to be robust and efficient in terrestrial broadcast environments. The ATSC Professional Demodulator was designed as a tool to measure the quality of the transmitted signal. Unwanted error conditions, due to environment and terrain, can be identified and corrected before customer outages occur. Another common use for Zenith's Demodulator is in field test trucks where contour measurements are critical in determining signal quality throughout the viewing area. When used in transmitter applications, in conjunction with Zenith's modulator, the Professional Demodulator monitors the linear signal quality and feeds back information used by the modulator for pre-correction. This enables broadcasters to run their transmitters at optimum performance where environmental conditions are a factor.
